AERONAUTICAL ENGINEER JOBS DESCRIPTION

Aerotek Engineering seeks an Entry-Level Aeronautical Engineer in Sterling, Virginia to join a small aeronautical engineering firm. The Aeronautical Engineer will support the production of commercial aircraft (airplane) parts. 0-3 years of aeronautical or aerospace engineering and a experience is required.

A well-qualified Aeronautical Engineer will meet all of the following requirements

- Bachelor’s (BS) degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering

Sr. R&D Engineering Manager – Medium Voltage Drives

SIEMENS Industry DT LD A develops, produces and markets electric medium voltage motor drives and motor drive systems throughout the world. These high-power drives are used in industrial and marine applications.
LD A offers bundling of Medium Voltage packages, including Medium Voltage Drives, Motors, Switchgear, Control Houses, etc. Siemens LD A has the largest installed base of medium voltage AC drives from 300 to 160,000 HP. The Perfect Harmony is the world’s best selling medium voltage, AC drive with over 3,000,000 HP installed.
SIEMENS Industry DT LD A is currently interviewing for a Senior R&D Engineering Manager, who will manage a team of mechanical and electrical engineers in the Systems Integration group in the R&D department for medium voltage drives.
POSITION SUMMARY:

This position provides the leadership for the R&D engineering resources engaged in the design, development, application and support of products, technology, and tools related to SIEMENS medium voltage drives. The R&D Engineering Manager will be responsible for a diverse team of electrical and mechanical engineers as well as drafters in the ‘System Integration’ group. He has to manage and mentor his group as well as giving technical guidance. Responsibilities will include the electro mechanical design for several medium voltage drives product lines. This is a very visible position as it is working in the Global head for the Larges Drives Business unit. Execution to the committed plans will have significant, long term impact on the business unit ability to perform and successfully compete in a global market.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Performance of ‘System Integration’ group – Accountable for resource scheduling, planning and performing to plan for all group related activities.
• Engineering Practice – Accountable for the organization’s use of good engineering practices, including applicable regulatory standards and compliance to industry, customer and / or internal processes and standards as appropriate.
• Staffing – Maintains a competent and effective staff through effective selection, recruitment, training, development, mentoring and performance planning of engineering staff, key management and technical personnel. Provides leadership to his subordinates and maintains good work ethic in his organization.
• Technology – Continually improves the organization’s technical competence and ability to execute to committed performance levels using state-of-the art technologies and practices. Maintains awareness of technological trends and frontiers, and the company’s competitive position in the specialty areas.
• Strategic – Maintains departmental strategic technical roadmap in support of the R&D Strategic Planning process.
• Administrative – Operates in accordance with Corporate, Operations and Commercial Systems policies and practices and in compliance with SIEMENS business ethics. Ensures thorough familiarity with policies and procedures relating to Standards of Business Conduct and trains and motivates subordinates in the importance of full compliance with the letter and spirit of such policies and procedures.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Bachelors (preferred Masters) degree in mechanical or electrical engineering with demonstrated high academic and/or job performance and a minimum of 10 or more years of progressive and relevant technical experience.

Requires an in-depth understanding of technical development projects and processes and a demonstrated ability to manage the work flow from requirements collection, technical design, implementation through to manufacturing in a similar area as medium voltage drives.

Must have exhibited the extraordinary knowledge and achievement in developing electro-mechanical platforms that allow a high degree of standardization but also can be used for an ‘Engineered to Customer’ approach.

Accomplishments have been marked by continuing initiative and creativity in advancing the state-of-the-art developments in the assigned technical area of proficiency. Consistently looks for ways to maximize opportunities, exceed expectations, and handle unexpected technical challenges.

Must have proven management skills and leadership skills including change management and talent development.

Requirements

• BS or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 10 years of design experience, including proposal preparation, design, documentation, and production aspects of electromechanical engineering. Has been in management position with subordinates or comparable position.

• Experience in leading a development team within a manufacturing organization or design company requiring planning, design, development, and testing of electromechanical systems.
• Good understanding of electrical drives and their design.
Scope of work will include:
- Electrical design (sensors, protection, power wiring, fuses, bus bar, circuit breaker)

- Thermal design / cooling cabinet (fans, HEX)
- Mechanical integrity (vibration, shock, tilt, noise)
- Water cooling system (cooling cabinet, heat sinks)
- Simulation tools models (stress, thermal)

- Mechanical drawings (3D / 2D)
- Electrical drawings (Drafting)
- Archiving / version control CADIM

- Documentation for production (2D / BOM)
- Customer documentation / technical writing
- technical compliance and standards (UL, CSA, IEC)

• Strong written and oral communication skills necessary to prepare reports.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and fix mechanical and electrical problems.
